A Rhode Island Sheet Metal Journeyperson Class I (Unlimited) is authorized to perform the full scope of sheet metal work covered by the Board, including ferrous and nonferrous ductwork, fabrication, and installation, while employed by a Sheet Metal Master licensee. Experience and Training
Class I requires a minimum of 8,000 hours of on-the-job training plus a minimum of 144 hours of trade-related schooling per year, completed through an approved sheet metal apprenticeship program. Source: 260-RICR-30-15-2.
Class II Distinction
Rhode Island also issues a Sheet Metal Journeyperson Class II (limited to residential), which requires 4,000 hours of on-the-job training plus a minimum of 288 hours of trade-related schooling through a state-approved program. Class II scope is limited to residential work; Class I is unlimited.
Exam
