An Oklahoma Sheet Metal Journeyman license authorizes the holder to install, alter, modify, service, maintain, or repair all ferrous and nonferrous duct and exhaust systems while working for a CIB-licensed Mechanical Contractor. License Family
CIB lists Sheet Metal Journeyman as one of ten distinct mechanical journeyman categories: HVAC Limited, HVAC Unlimited, Limited Residential, Refrigeration, Natural Gas Piping, Process Piping, Sheet Metal, Ground Source Piping, Petroleum Refinery Process Piping, and Medical Gas. Each category has its own scope and exam.
Experience and Training
Applicants must have three years of verifiable experience in the sheet metal mechanical trade in the category for which the applicant is applying, or an associate's degree or vocational diploma certifying completion of a CIB-approved educational program of 1,000 hours or more. Exam
The Sheet Metal Journeyman examination is administered through CIB's contracted exam vendor. Editorial verification required for current exam fee and passing score before public launch.
Reciprocity
CIB evaluates out-of-state applicants on a case-by-case basis. Oklahoma is among the New Mexico Construction Industries Division's recognized reciprocity partners for journeyman sheet metal; reciprocity in the reverse direction (out-of-state into Oklahoma) is evaluated individually.
