Scope of Work

An Oklahoma Sheet Metal Journeyman license authorizes the holder to install, alter, modify, service, maintain, or repair all ferrous and nonferrous duct and exhaust systems while working for a CIB-licensed Mechanical Contractor. Source: Oklahoma CIB — Mechanical Journeyman categories (https://oklahoma.gov/cib/your-industry/mechanical/mechanical-journeyman.html).

License Family

CIB lists Sheet Metal Journeyman as one of ten distinct mechanical journeyman categories: HVAC Limited, HVAC Unlimited, Limited Residential, Refrigeration, Natural Gas Piping, Process Piping, Sheet Metal, Ground Source Piping, Petroleum Refinery Process Piping, and Medical Gas. Each category has its own scope and exam.

Experience and Training

Applicants must have three years of verifiable experience in the sheet metal mechanical trade in the category for which the applicant is applying, or an associate's degree or vocational diploma certifying completion of a CIB-approved educational program of 1,000 hours or more. Applicants who gained their experience in Oklahoma must have maintained an apprentice registration with the CIB during that period. Source: Oklahoma CIB Mechanical application materials.

Exam

The Sheet Metal Journeyman examination is administered through CIB's contracted exam vendor. Editorial verification required for current exam fee and passing score before public launch.

Reciprocity

CIB evaluates out-of-state applicants on a case-by-case basis. Oklahoma is among the New Mexico Construction Industries Division's recognized reciprocity partners for journeyman sheet metal; reciprocity in the reverse direction (out-of-state into Oklahoma) is evaluated individually. Editorial verification required.

Renewal and CE

Editorial verification required for current renewal cycle, renewal fee, and continuing education hours before public launch. Refer to CIB's mechanical-industry licensing pages and forms (https://oklahoma.gov/cib.html).
