Unlimited Plumbing Journeyman

An Unlimited Plumbing Journeyman in Oklahoma may engage in the act of plumbing while employed and supervised by a licensed plumbing contractor. A journeyman cannot contract or furnish labor and materials in the journeyman's own name. Experience and Training
Applicants for the journeyman examination must be 18 years of age or older and must have three (3) years of experience in the plumbing trade while employed by a licensed Plumbing contractor; or equivalent verifiable three years' experience serving in the U.S. military; or a verifiable out-of-state plumbing license that may qualify for reciprocity under OAC 158:30-5-4 where a written reciprocity agreement exists. Education substitution: an associate's degree or vocational diploma from a Committee-approved program of 1,000+ classroom hours may substitute for 2 years of experience; 500 hours for 1 year; smaller totals substitute proportionally. Military Crosswalk
Oklahoma accepts substantially equivalent military education, training, and experience toward licensure examination under OAC 158:30-9-1.1 and OAC 158:1-3-10.
Exam
The plumbing examination includes written questions and drawings and/or charts based on the standard of installation adopted under OAC 158:30-1-4 (the International Plumbing Code as adopted by the Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission). The maximum grade value of each part is 100 points and an examinee must make 75% or more on each part. Source: OAC 158:30-9-1.
Reciprocity
Oklahoma recognizes reciprocity only where a written reciprocity agreement exists between the Construction Industries Board and the applicant's home state under OAC 158:30-5-4. Applicants without a reciprocity agreement may qualify for Exam Equivalency under OAC 158:30-9-1.4 if the home state exam is pre-approved by the Committee and the applicant scored 70% or higher, is in good standing, and has no pending disciplinary matters.
Renewal and CE
1-year renewal cycle. Renewal journeyman license fee is $75.00 (late fee $25.00), journeyman application fee is $25.00, and initial journeyman license fee is $50.00. Continuing education is 6 hours every 3 years or 36 months preceding the license expiration date; a licensee is exempt from CE for 3 years from the date the licensee passed the current licensing exam. Scope Limitations
A journeyman cannot contract in the journeyman's own name. Medical gas piping installation requires additional certification by NFPA 99 examination or by an organization approved by the Committee, under OAC 158:50 for mechanical medical gas work and Oklahoma plumbing rules cross-references for plumbing-side medical gas.
