Elevator Mechanic

An Illinois Elevator Mechanic license authorizes an individual to construct, install, alter, service, repair, or maintain elevators and other conveyances regulated by the Office of the State Fire Marshal's Elevator Safety Division. Experience and Training
Applicants must demonstrate either: (a) completion of an approved apprenticeship program (e.g., NEIEP) or a nationally recognized training program; or (b) at least three (3) years of work experience prior to the date of filing the application AND passage of the written examination, with employment verified by letters from licensed elevator contractors. Exam
The Illinois Elevator Mechanic examination is administered by Pearson VUE on behalf of the OSFM Elevator Safety Division. Topics include ASME A17.1 with Illinois amendments, NEC Article 620, state-specific regulations, and practical knowledge of elevator installation, maintenance, and repair. Passing score is 70%. Renewal and CE
