A Mississippi Elevator Mechanic license authorizes an individual to construct, install, alter, service, repair, or maintain elevators and other conveyances regulated under the Mississippi Conveyance Safety Act. Experience and Training
Applicants must demonstrate either (a) a minimum of four (4) years of work experience in elevator construction, maintenance, and service/repair within the last five (5) years; or (b) completion of an apprenticeship program with standards substantially equal to state requirements. Exam
A written examination on the most recent referenced codes and standards is required, unless the applicant qualifies through an alternative pathway.
Renewal and CE
Eight (8) hours of continuing education in the twelve (12) months immediately prior to renewal, including a minimum of two (2) hours of safety training. Acceptable providers include NAEC, NEIEP, IUEC, CET, or Administrator-approved courses. Source: 19 Miss. Code R. § 8-1.9.
Scope Limitations
A licensed mechanic may directly supervise no more than three (3) helpers or apprentices at a time.
