A New Hampshire Elevator Mechanic license authorizes an individual to maintain, repair, install, and alter elevators in the State of New Hampshire. Experience and Training
Applicants must qualify under one of the following: (a) two (2) years of documented experience working as an elevator mechanic's helper/apprentice averaging 1,800 hours per year over the 2-year period in New Hampshire under direct supervision of an NH-licensed elevator mechanic; or (b) three consecutive years holding a certificate or license of competency working as an elevator mechanic an average of 1,800 hours per year over the 3-year period. Exam
The licensing examination consists of two parts of 100 questions each (true/false, multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, short answer, and essay). Passing score is 70% accuracy. The exam is based on ASME A17.1 editions adopted by New Hampshire (1965, 1984, 1993, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019). Source: NH DOL Elevators FAQ.
Examination Not Required
Applicants who qualify under N.H. Admin. Code Lab 1303.06 (e.g., recognized credentials/registered apprenticeship) may be issued without examination.
