Elevator Mechanic

A Wisconsin Elevator Mechanic license is required for any person to erect, construct, alter, replace, maintain, repair, remove, or dismantle conveyances regulated by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. Experience and Training (choose one). (1) Pass the elevator-mechanic license examination after at least 1,000 hours per year for five (5) consecutive years immediately preceding the application, including elevator-mechanic-level work experience in each year; or (2) complete an elevator apprenticeship program lasting at least four years and recognized under Wisconsin Statutes Chapter 106 or by the U.S. Department of Labor; or (3) complete a four-year training program established by the National Elevator Industry Educational Program (NEIEP) or department-approved equivalent. The DSPS elevator-mechanic license examination is required for applicants qualifying via the experience pathway.
