A Minnesota Journeyworker Elevator Constructor license authorizes an individual to perform full-scope elevator work — installation, maintenance, modernization, testing, wiring, and repair — on elevators and related conveyances regulated by the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry. Experience and Training
Applicants must qualify under one of the following: (a) completion of a four-year apprenticeship program registered with the U.S. Department of Labor; or (b) at least 9,000 hours over five consecutive years working with a DLI-licensed elevator contractor. Source: Minnesota DLI licensing page.
Exam
A written elevator constructor examination is required.
Renewal and CE
Renewal cycle is two (2) years. Continuing education: 16 hours per renewal — 12 hours on Minnesota Elevator Code or Elevator Technology and 4 hours on the National Electrical Code. Fees
Renewal $35 (plus $15 late fee). A separate Master Elevator Constructor license requires 1 additional year as journeyworker or 6 years in planning, layout, supervision, and installation.
