Continuing education — electricians in California

State CE requirement

CALIFORNIA · electrician

32 hours every 3 years

California certified electricians (General Electrician, Residential Electrician, and other specialties) are certified by the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) Division of Labor Standards Enforcement. The state board requires 32 hours of continuing education and 2,000 hours of relevant industry work every three-year renewal cycle. Continuing education must be taken from a DIR-approved provider. This requirement applies to the DIR electrician certification and is separate from the CSLB C-10 electrical contractor license, which does not currently require continuing education.
