Continuing education — electricians in New York

State CE requirement

NEW-YORK · electrician

24 hours every 3 years

New York has no statewide electrician continuing-education requirement because the state does not license electricians statewide (https://dos.ny.gov/licensing-services). Within NYC, Master & Special Electricians must complete at least 8 hours per year of a Department-approved course, 24 hours of instructional time over a 3-year Electrical Code cycle, per NYC DOB rules effective January 1, 2016. Renewals and course certificates are submitted through DOB NOW: Licensing, which became mandatory for all electrician-license actions on February 23, 2026. The NYC Electrical Code integrates NFPA NEC text with local amendments; verify the current code cycle adopted by DOB before selecting a CE course.
