Continuing education — hvac technicians in Washington

State CE requirement

WASHINGTON · hvac

24 hours every 3 years

Washington does not issue a standalone HVAC license at the state level. Most HVAC and refrigeration work is regulated under the L&I 06A HVAC/Refrigeration specialty electrician certification, which covers installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems. The state board requires 24 hours of continuing education every three-year renewal cycle, including 8 hours on the most recently adopted National Electrical Code and 4 hours on Washington state license law and WAC updates. Some HVAC scopes are regulated locally (for example, Seattle SDCI issues separate refrigeration licenses).
