Continuing education — hvac technicians in Florida

State CE requirement

14 hours every 2 years

Florida Statute 489.115(6) requires at least 14 classroom hours of continuing education each biennium for certified and registered construction contractors, including air-conditioning contractors. Topic breakdown set by CILB rule covers workers' compensation, business practices, workplace safety, laws and rules (minimum 1 hour), advanced and core technical content, and, where applicable, wind mitigation methodologies; many providers also offer Florida Building Code Mechanical update hours that satisfy the technical portion. Providers must be approved by DBPR/CILB, and instructors earn CE credit on an hour-for-hour basis for the first presentation of an approved course. EPA Section 608 refrigerant certification is a separate federal credential and does not substitute for Florida CE hours.
