Continuing education — hvac technicians in Virginia

State CE requirement

VIRGINIA · hvac

3 hours every 3 years

Under 18 VAC 50-30-120 C, HVAC tradesmen must complete three hours of board-approved continuing education per designation each three-year renewal cycle. The required topic is applicable building code changes, which for HVAC means the International Mechanical Code as adopted by the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code. Virginia Code § 54.1-1132 sets the three-year license term, and § 54.1-1133 authorizes the Board for Contractors to require evidence of knowledge of code changes at renewal. Course providers must be board-approved; verify current provider roster on the DPOR Tradesmen page before enrolling.
